Lotus Unique’s number one product is our luxury scarf. With our luxury scarf collection, we offer a selection of shades and we are always developing specially designed scarves which cannot be found elsewhere. Our pashminas and bedding throws are produced in smaller quantities, and as such can be seen as truly limited edition. What we do is to produce a collection of oversize scarves, with a fantastic combination of ranges and colours. We can also produce larger bedding decorators on special customer request.

Batik hand painted

You will love the wonderful luscious colors we can create and the unique shape and pastel colors. Hand painted Batik (traditional Malaysian fine art), which I learned in my early 40s lead me to having a passion for and studying these designs. My dream to create Batik in New Zealand then opened up a new interest in creating scarves, pashmina, bed throws and sarongs with Silk. The Silk is bought from NZ suppliers and are naturally dyed with a range of design patterns including floral, animals, geometric and abstract hand painting. All of these silk scarves are offered in different length and width options.

Batik drawing itself is the process of waxing and dyeing cloth by hand using wax-resist and dye techniques. All the designs you find in Lotus Unique’s Batik designs are uniquely drawn. They are painted and waxed by hand with a tool known as a canting. The canting consists of a small copper cup on top of a wooden handle with a spout, through which melted wax can flow out and through this the artist can express their creativity onto the fabric. The fabric is nailed onto a custom made wooden frame dependent on the length of the fabric.

Once the artist has outlined the wax drawing, they start applying the dye. The core design of the Batik is painted with various colors. They start painting with the lightest colors and finish with the darkest colors to maintain balance on the fabric. In the final step the remaining spaces outside the core design will have the same color applied throughout the whole piece of cloth. When they are finished with the painting process the fabric is then set to dry out. Later the fabric is put into boiling water to remove the wax.

It is very easy to determine whether a Batik is genuinely hand drawn. The color of genuine hand drawn Batik will have exactly the same vividness on beach side of the fabric, whereas printed batik will be bright on only one side.

Among all the different kinds of scarves, our handmade luxury scarves have come to occupy a special place, as bespoke, handmade articles are increasingly finding patronage among buyers throughout the world and all exhibit our great and Lotus Unique style.
